A Week of Eating

I try to eat as healthy as I can when it's possible but I know its hard for some people because organic fresh options can be expensive. Not only that but finding the time for meal prep and actually remembering to eat the prepared meals is hard when you are running between class. It wasn't until this second semester that I finally figured out how to keep my eating habits healthy.

TIPS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

* Sweet potatos!!

These are so good and I've heard that they provide a lot of nutrients. You can make baked sweet potato fries or just bake the sweet potato and eat it with some beans and salsa. Adding a theme to your sweet potato can make it feel like you are eating restaurant style food so I suggest sticking with a certain cuisine!

* Salad!!

Grab some cherry tomatoes, whatever lettuce you like, chick peas, avocado, black beans, grilled chicken, black olives and any other topping that you like to add on your salad and through it into a plastic container. Another pro tip is getting containers that have small attachable tiny compartments for your dressing. That way your salad won't get soggy before you eat it. Small containers are perfect for mixing a salad on the go, just throw everything in, put the lid back on, and shake it!

* Vegetable Medley

Having a vegetable medley ready to go in your freezer makes it super easy to get your veggies in for the day. Although frozen vegetables don't have as much nutrients in them as fresh veggies, they are cheaper and way more convenient. Have them with grilled chicken and some type of grain so you are cover all of your nutrient groups.

* Small, high protein snacks

Things like cheese squares or protein granola bars are great small snacks that keep you full because of their high protein content. If you ever find yourself reaching for more food right after you eat its probably because you aren't getting enough protein. If you pack your snacks with protein you are less likely to grab something else 5 minutes later.

I hope these tips can help you save money and stay healthy!
